Return To Duty Process
The Department of Transportation (DOT) return-to-duty process is designed to ensure that employees in substance abuse-related incidents are provided ample opportunity to seek treatment and successfully return to duty. The policy applies to all DOT-regulated modes of transportation, including air, rail, highway, and water. Under the policy, any safety-sensitive employee involved in a substance abuse-related incident must be removed from all safety-sensitive duty and referred and evaluated by a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).

So if you or someone you know are a DOT safety-sensitive employee behind the steering wheel of a school bus, an 18-wheeler, in the cockpit of a plane, at the helm of an oil tanker, at the throttle of a train, in the engineer compartment of a subway car, or at the emergency control valves of a natural gas pipeline that violated the DOT alcohol & drug policy, please contact us.

Failed DOT Test?
When a positive drug test is reviewed and verified, employers will receive notice from a Medical Review Officer (MRO) about their employee’s results. Once a drug test result has been reported by the MRO, this result is final. The employee will need to complete an SAP Process before they can return to duty.
