If you're a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holder who obtained your Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC) from Dr. Jenny Le or Dr. Dustin Mai between March 2023 and March 2025, immediate action is required to maintain your driving privileges.
What Happened?
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has identified that Dr. Le and Dr. Mai failed to adhere to required medical examination standards. As a result, on April 10, 2025, the FMCSA voided over 15,000 unexpired MECs issued by these examiners during the specified period. This action affects 15,225 commercial motor vehicle drivers.
Critical Deadline: 10 May 2025
While the voiding of these certificates does not immediately impact your ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), you must obtain a new MEC by 10 May 2025. Failure to do so will prompt your State Driver Licensing Agency (SDLA) to initiate procedures to downgrade your CDL, potentially removing you from safety-sensitive duties.
Steps to Take Now
Verify Your MEC: Check if your current MEC was issued by Dr. Le or Dr. Mai between March 2023 and March 2025.
Schedule a New Examination: If affected, schedule a new physical examination with a certified medical examiner listed on the FMCSA's National Registry. There are over 38,000 active medical examiners available.
Submit Your New MEC: After obtaining a new MEC, ensure it's submitted to your SDLA promptly to prevent any disruption in your CDL status.
